GoldenEye is a modular plug and play system that allows for autonomous, safe and reliable commercial drone applications. Currently, despite widespread availability of drones, FAA and other regulatory agencies impose severe restrictions on their commercial use. These restrictions include that a certified pilot must be in control and the flight be limited to the pilot’s line of sight. These restrictions exist for safety reasons, as drones are not intelligent enough to sense and avoid obstacles in their surroundings. Using smart sensing technologies such as laser range finders and cameras, GoldenEye would sense the drone’s surroundings and process this information in real-time onboard. Intelligent path planning algorithms would then generate commands for course correction. This would enable fully autonomous flight, as well as act as a safety buffer during human controlled operations. Also, two or more drones with this system can communicate and cooperate on missions. It is expected that regulatory agencies will make such features mandatory for commercial drones. Further, by removing the requirement of constant human oversight, dull dirty and dangerous missions can be fully automated.
