About This Contest:

Cleanweb is about applying software innovation to some of the biggest resource challenges we face in areas such as energy, water, waste, transit, and food, in order to allow us to work and live in ways that are both easier AND more efficient.

The Cleanweb Hackathon will bring together software developers, designers, and users to create elegant prototypes-- starting from scratch-- that address these issues. We need your help. What's your big idea? Tell us the app you think should exist-- but doesn't-- in areas that affect your business, your home, or your life.

Introduce yourself, explain your problem, tell us what kind of data or inputs you'd need, and explain what kind of output your solution would give us and how it could be used. Then tell your friends to vote for your idea, to help gain a team of people who can help turn it into reality.

Some list of (non-exhaustive) sample datasets and APIs can be found at: http://houston.cleanweb.co/?page_id=18 and http://houston.cleanweb.co/?page_id=19.

Don't forget to register for the Hackathon, Sept 21-23 at Rice University in Houston: http://houston.cleanweb.co.

All entrants will be promoted by Cleanweb Texas to get team support ahead of the Houston event September 21-23.

The top 10 entrants will receive free admission to the event, including free food for the weekend and an awesome Cleanweb t-shirt.

The top 3 vote winners will receive 1-on-1 sessions with leading Houston venture investors.

Total Prizes:

$500
Rules and Requirements:

1. We recommend keeping videos around 3-4 minutes, if possible.

2. Videos should include a brief problem description, and an initial outline of how the problem could be solved, including input data and output usage. Videos should clearly indicate the type of resource problem they are addressing, such as energy, water, waste, transit, or food.

3. Problems should relate broadly to cleanweb ideas, including software improvements to cleantech hardware; ideas that use big data to improve behavior and operations; or any other business methods or models that use mobility, social networks, cheap computing, and/or big data to reduce resource consumption directly or indirectly.

4. Ideas can be new solutions, or localization/update of existing solutions-- but there should not be existing code or implementation work.
